After the enormous success of the
inaugural Vodacom In The City last year,
Newtown’s Mary Fitzgerald Square will once again be converted into a downtown one-day
festival comprising the edgiest line-up to hit the Jo’burg CBD.
The UK’s hottest new indie act, award-winning alt-J has been confirmed as the
first international act to treat 15,000 fans at the event on Friday 4 October,
before they jet off to Cape Town to wow Rocking
the Daisies on the Saturday night.
The chart-topping quartet
have already performed at some of world’s top festivals such as Coachella,
Glastonbury, Lollapalooza and Reading and are now making their way to SouthAfrica for the very first time. Nominated at this year’s Brit Awards for ‘Best British Group’,
‘Best British Album’ and ‘British Breakthrough’ and winning the Mercury Prize for ‘Best British Album’ of the
last year, alt-J have risen to fame
with little to no record label promotion, showcasing the sheer tenacity anddrive the act have for their music and their fans.
Audiences can expect a
spectacular performance from alt-J
alongside an explosive stage set that will leave Newtown’s eardrums ringing
from the sonic assault of melodic choruses and captivating songs that stick in
your head. ‘Something Good’ and ‘Matilda’ have catapulted
the quirky band
to a rapid rise in the global music industry, culminating in sold-out
showsacross the USA and Europe. The genre-defying act’s poignant folk
verses,
crushing synths and tight vocal harmonies are what set them apart,
showcasing
the sheer talent and brilliance of the band.
