Beware: The Bone Collectors (and competition!)

The Bone Collectors have been slinging their brand of percussive boogie in both the finest and foulest venues in Cape Town for about 4 years now. I saw them at RAMfest earlier this year and fell slightly in love with them. Besides having a great name, they are indeed something quite different and definitely entertaining to watch!

Their genre is loosely based on percussive, dark sounds, fast-paced,
awkward angular chords combined with dark lyrics. No doubt that the band creates a macabre, but wild and wonderful atmosphere on stage (even in brought daylight!). They surely make the adrenaline rise and you feel that you have no other choice, but to get up and dance to their dark and twisted beats. Throw in a few manic smiles and a weird outfit or two and the Bone Collectors will rock your socks off (if you wear any!).

The band consists of the following members:

Roland Hunter - Sings, strings, writes the things

Nick Backer - Sax attack

Gawie du Toit - He's the bass boy

Ryk Otto - Whacks the skins

Ken Bullen-Smith - Whacks the tins

After doing the rounds on the
live scene, there was nothing else to do but record an album. Their debut album 'Black Love' was recorded at
Fresh Meat Studios and mixed by Dean Bailey of Cloud Studios. A select few tracks are available
to download for free:

After a quiet couple of months since RAMFest, the Bone Collectors are ready to stretch their legs and test some new material at Carnival Court on Saturday May 25, with their amigos the Shabeen and debut act (the primary reason for the party) !Krunk. I highly recommend that you go check these guys at this bustling, intimate venue. Who knows, you might just witness the kings of boogie bringing down the entire Long Street!

(Rol will also be celebrating his birthday on the night, and fully intends to show the young ones how to do it.)
