On February 16th 2013, Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront was transformed into any extreme gamer's paradise. The sun was scorching and the girls were out in their shorts and bikini's - ready for a full day of extreme sport. The event needed no introduction and people flocked to the Waterfront to see some of SA's best extreme sportsmen doing what they do best.

This year more than 5,000 extreme sports-loving spectators attended the day-long event in the Mother City. The sporting events was followed by an after-party at Cape Town’s hottest nightclub The Dragon Room on Harrington Street with top local DJ’s and bands playing into the night. Complete with a car-show, the Inner-city Muscle car-show, this was an exciting event for sport lovers all around Cape Town.

Markus Museler from Old School Productions, owner of the event, had the following to say about Ultimate X 2013. "We really pushed the boundaries this year to stage an action sports event on par with international standards. With record crowds and unbelievable performances from local and international athletes, this is without a doubt the most unforgettable Ultimate X to date."

25 of the country’s best riders as well as international competitors turned the Gateway Canal into an extreme sporting delight with death-defying stunts and record breaking attempts, all for a piece of the R100 000 in cash prize and the prestigious title of the Hunter’s eXtreme Ultimate X Gold 2013 South African champion. Especially the FMX was very impressive and at times they had the crowd covering their faces in absolute disbelief.

Winners for each category included Dylan Mitchell for wakeboarding, Greg Illingworth for BMX, Louis Taulbert for skate, and Nick de Wit and Alastair Sayer for FMX.

Mike Silver, of experiential marketing partner Stretch, said that this year’s festival was the most successful edition to date. "Thanks to the help of our sponsor partners and the Western Cape Government, consumers were treated to an incredible action sports festival experience. With thousands of attendees visiting from across the country for the eXtreme weekend, I think it's safe to say that Hunters eXtreme Ultimate X is now recognized as one of the region's premier and largest summer events. Watch out the rest of SA, we may be paying you a visit soon!" We fully agree!

This year, Hunter’s eXtreme Ultimate X Festival gave back to the community through its Reach for a Dream initiative. The event aimed to fulfil the dreams of four extreme sport-loving children from the Reach for a Dream Foundation by giving them and their families a full VIP experience on the day.

There were plenty of areas to sit and enjoy an ice cold Hunter's Extreme. The only problem that we found quite frustrating, was that it was at times almost impossible to find a spot where you could see more than 50% of the skate/BMX park. Would it not be better to build two decent pavilions from scaffolding on each side of the park? It felt like they catered for 200 spectators, when in reality there were 5000. I heard some frustrated spectators comment on the lack of decent seating and other people blocking the entire front row. Another great idea would be to have one or two big screens, with some live footage.
