The New Vintage featuring Modern Renaissance Man, Woolrich, & Too Boot New York

Posted by Unknown Friday, October 4, 2013 0 comments
One of my favorite styles come from vintage 1920's: inspired by heavy fabrics, perfectly fitted suits, and amazing accessories.  Boardwalk empire, The Great Gatsby, and Lawless have really brought this era of dress to the forefront.

Fall is a great season for 1920's style but it's the details that distinguishes vintage from a simple blazer and pants look.  A collar pin and up-cycled handkerchief and lapel pin (courtesy of Modern Renaissance Man) made it appear as though this outfit was stolen directly off the back of a 1920's bootlegger.

Fall Tweed & Colors with Zara, H&M, and J Crew

Posted by Unknown Tuesday, August 13, 2013 0 comments
This was my last outfit during the San Francisco visit.  With fall right around the corner and fashion houses starting to release their fall collections, common trends across various designers were tweeds and the incorporation of vibrant colors (refer to my Paul Smith Fall/Winter 2013 Collection article).

Cold weather outfits can be at times dull and weighed down by drab colors and heavy materials, so an easy solution is layering something lightweight and colorful under the chunkier pieces.  In the following outfit, I paired a neon green vest under a classic tweed blazer to keep warm, but at the same time, not drown in dull fall colors.

Thank you for reading and remember to "Like" me on Facebook where I often post random stuff not found on here.

Cool Layering with Mr. Brown, Zara, & H&M

Posted by Unknown Friday, August 9, 2013 0 comments
The Boss was in Northern California for a conference in San Francisco, that's why we visited Healdsburg but stayed a couple nights in The City.  Because it was unseasonably cool, I was able to break up the monotony of dressing for summer and was able to layer up a little.

San Francisco weather can be a tad fickle, windy and cold one moment, while hot and humid the next. For this reason, it was nice to outfit the day with a layering sweater and throw a light jacket over top.  I could wear the sweater all day long without worrying about overheating, but could easily take the jacket out of the bag during the chilly wind gusts and nights.

Italian Chic with Marc Jacobs & Zara

Posted by Unknown Monday, July 29, 2013 0 comments
When it comes to new designs and trends, Italians are the pioneers and trailblazers in the world of men's fashion.  Italian men have an innate ability to look as though they intentionally put an outfit together, even when they didn't.  They can walk into a McDonald's with a full wool suit on and wouldn't look overdressed.  It’s the art of trying without looking like you tried.

You don't often see shorts and a blazer in the states, but the combination just screams Italian summer days.  Shorts and a shirt give off a laid-back, casual look, but the simple addition of a blazer transforms it into a whole different look.  While the casual nature of a tee and denim shorts on a summer day give the outfit a “just thrown on” kind of vibe, the slim, clean lines of the ensemble also suggest that you must have put some thought into the final look.  It makes the statement that, although summer is all about being cool and comfortable, you refuse to dumb down your style because Mother Nature dictates it.

Summer Chic with Floral Hat and Black Tee

Posted by Unknown Friday, July 5, 2013 0 comments
This past week has been killer with 100+ degree weather.  The last thing anyone wants to do is go out, but if you must, then staying cool and comfortable is the name of the game.  However, it's difficult to dress cool without looking too casual because to dress for hot weather typically entails shorts and a t-shirt.  There's nothing wrong with shorts and a tee, but it's good to have variety during the hot season.

To balance comfort with style, I paired slim cargos with a slouchy deep-V tee and a floral cap.  The slouchy tee is a great versatile piece that blends comfort and style while the floral cap added a little edge and shade from the summer sun.

Hope everyone had a great and safe Fourth of July.  Thanks as always for reading.

Electric Blues and Florals

Posted by Unknown Sunday, May 19, 2013 0 comments
I try to play with different patterns and prints, but even for me, floral can be difficult to wear.  It is such a bold pattern that it is difficult to wear without making it look like I am trying to draw attention to myself.  I have previously used florals as an accent in a shirt or as an accessory such as a pocket square or scarf, but this is the first time I have used it as the primary piece in an outfit.  In the "Spring Rain" shoot, I did use a floral print sweater, but because it was a washed out print, it wasn't as in your face as this shirt.

The floral shirt did not have bright colors so it was okay that I paired it with an electric-blue corduroy sport coat.  It sounds weird, but the inspiration for getting this color of sport coat was the women's Celine Electric Blue Mini Luggage that I have seen a couple bloggers and women wear.

To finish off the outfit, I paired it with a super dark denim to help tone down the busy and bright tops and accessorized the outfit with a large plaid-print handkerchief.

::Southern Gent::

Posted by Unknown Monday, May 6, 2013 0 comments
Trends will come and go, and the double-breasted (DB) blazer is no exception.  The large bulky jackets of yesteryear have given way to cleaner lines and a modern fit.  It has been extremely difficult finding the perfect double-breasted blazer.  They have been either terrible quality or way more than I would like to spend.

If money were not an issue, then the Ovadia & Sons jacket would be my top choice, but I have 99 problems and money is every single one of them.  J Crew was also another option, but I have been trying to steer away from that brand.  J Crew is a great brand for staples and classic pieces, but I have made a conscious effort to expand beyond my go-to brands.

In this post, I played off the look of Southern men with a little mix of prep that I have seen in such places as Atlanta and Houston.  Their look is a mix of classic American with a little bit of hipster peppered in.

The modern fit DB blazer is cropped, and the sleeves are cut higher against the arm to create a cleaner look and eliminate excess material.

It may be a little difficult to see, but the khakis have an internal print that can be seen on the cuffs.  The internal print creates an illusion that they are subtly patterned khakis.

For Spring and Summer, I pretty much ditch socks unless I am at work.  The sock-less look just screams the casual feel of the two seasons.
