Slum Chic with Gant, Hydrogen-1, and DKNY

Posted by Unknown Sunday, December 8, 2013 0 comments
I sometimes pick up items without even knowing how to wear them.  I've always been fond of hybrid shoes but never knew how to dress them.  Hyrdrogen-1 is a great way to step into hybrids--they are versatile enough to go with just about anything.  Oh and did I mention they are made in Italy.  Winning!!

Urban Style featuring Gant, Scotch & Soda, and Etro

Posted by Unknown Thursday, June 6, 2013 0 comments
One of the keys to great style is having a diversified portfolio.  It's easy to stay within your comfort zone, but this can pigeon-hole you into a specific style.  You don't have to to buy an entire wardrobe for specific styles such as urban, street, American classic, or hipster, but core items in your wardrobe can be remixed into different styles.

For example, the Gant plaid shirt below was used previously in a casual American classic style (Casual Weekend).  But in my recent shoot, the Gant shirt was used in an urban style outfit.  Instead of clean lines and heavy materials as above, I paired the shirt with slightly baggy-distressed jeans and boots.

The emphasis of this urban style was to look a little disheveled.   It has a tough "I don't care" feel to it.

The small-clean accessories that I typically use were replaced with heavy pieces such as the bulky belt and heavy leather boots.

Casual Weekend

I needed to get away, so The Boss and I headed out to San Francisco.  It was nice weather for The City, but still chilly.  I was loving my new Fair Isle scarf, so I pulled the outfit together around it.  Usually I like to pop color over the drab tones of winter, but the brown on brown worked.  The key is to use textures.  You want to avoid flat browns.

This guy was asking me if I was the guy from "City of Gentlemen."  I replied, "Well yes, I am."

Like I said earlier, the best way to break up dull
tones is to mix in textures.
Mixed a heavy wool coat with leather elbow
patches with fine cord pants.

To tie the rugged look together, I chose a weathered chukka boot.

One of my go to items for a Gentlemen is the coat jacket wallet,
also known as a long wallet.  Nothing is worse than a giant
bulge in your pant pocket.  I did break the browns with a plaid
shirt and floral pocket square.
