sexiest country

I believe very much in the saying - when life gives u lemons, make lemonade... And when life gives me lemons...they give me a whole bag full!! Well, I guess sometimes we need it, to realise what we actually can be. No one died, I'm not sick and I didn't loose my house, but it was a bad day for me...



So, since it is Thursday and almost weekend I realised that I am in the mood for a B-I-G party. Not necessarily to party up a storm just to wake up with a hangover from hell, but something to cheer me up. Good music and good company is all I need and I will find it this coming weekend come hell or highwater. So here is a few things lined-up for the weekend:

CAPE TOWN FASHION WEEK! The event will mainly go down at the Cticc. Tickets from R165 per person:



In a first for South African Fashion, African Fashion International (AFI) has partnered with SA Tourism to develop tourism through fashion. Fashion Tourism forms one of four key pillars identified by AFI that will be the drivers of Cape Town Fashion Week, taking place from 13- 16 July 2011.



With the support of the Cape Town Fashion Council, SA Tourism and the Cape Town Tourism, AFI have invited selected design powerhouses to present their Spring/ Summer 2011/12 collections at various iconic venues around the city.



STOMP - a photographic exhibition at  Rococo Art Cafe.



Stu Shapiro and Joe Botha, two Cape Town photographers, exhibit their work at Rococo Studio Gallery on July 15. The Exhibition starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm. The work takes an inside look at the underground summer festival scene in South Africa

Celebrate the Bastille Day Festival 2011 in Franschhoek on the 16 & 17 July. Locals and visitors to the valley will be celebrating centuries-old French Huguenot heritage at its annual Bastille Festival.



---A tiny line-up, but I am sure there will be something to get me in the mood for a party and to put a smile on my face! yay!

I had an amazingly FANTASTIC and busy weekend. I worked on both Friday and Saturday and went to the Grand Opening of the new Zula Soundbar. I must say it was truly fantastic! About 2500 people attended the opening over the two days and I believe everyone had a great time. I wasn't fortunate to see the Springbok Nude Girls live, but I met Arno Carstens, so I guess that counts for something...



I did however got to see one of my favourite bands - AKING - on Saturday night. They are one of my favourite South-African bands purely because they make really good music and give a brilliant performance. Altough the sound check took really long (and I mean really!?) the set was worth the wait. I heard that they are not going to Oppikoppi this year...that is really unfortunate for all Oppikoppi ticket holders..haha! That reminds me: Why do they still advertise Oppikoppi everywhere if ALL the tickets are SOLD OUT??? There are none left...That is just torture for those who really wanted to go...







So, back to Zula's opening:



It was good to be in the VIP area all night on Saturday... I got to meet some of the newest, up-coming artists in the country, which was nice. I was also looking into the detail of the venue: The lower dance floor can take up to 450 people, while the upper dance floor can take 750. I think they should not only focus on music in the new Zula, but they can also use the venue for exhibitions, fashion shows, to screen movies etc. There's also a neat cocktail bar (at the entrance) and a mini cafe - where you can order food (the new menu is yet to be launched).









So yeah, overall I think the weekend was a great success for the Zula team and I hope that the Cape Town youngsters will keep on supporting them.



So with Cape Town Fashion Week around the corner, I'm looking for a pretty outfit to wear to the event (if I have TIME to go). When I look for a new outfit, I usually start with shoes and tops. You can pair any cute top with a pair of sexy shoes and you're good to go! Here are some of my favourite shoes:











And then, I love Taylor Momsen's style on Gossip Girl. I think it is glamorous, though a bit dark:















Anyway, I've heard that Sissy Boy just had their shoot for their new campaign Spring/Summer 2011. Although I could only get a sneak peak, it looks really gorgeous. I love Sissy Boy clothes. I must admit that it is the only jeans I have ever tried on, that instantly fit (and boy do they fit!). I love Sissy Boy.

And since it is Turn on Tuesday, here is a pretty girl.



Her name is Caroline West and she is on ELite New York's Development board. She is beautiful and has amazing bone structure. She has not been on the runway a whole lot, but I am sure we will see more of her soon. Go Caroline!

On Monday 4th July- Friday 8th July we had Multicultural week. During this week we have travelled to different countries around the world.
Year 3 and 4 went to:
Lithuania
Poland
Philippines
Republic of Ireland
Portugal
Pakistan

Year 5 and 6 went to:
Ghana
Cyprus
Nigeria
Thailand
Jamaica
Cambodia

We found out information about the countries and participated in activities from each of the countries we visited.
On Thursday we had a dance troop in and they taught dances from some of the countries we visited.
Year 3 learnt Polish Dancing
Year 4 learnt Irish Dancing
Year 5 learnt
Year 6 learnt

We all enjoyed our week!

We have been working with the Bike It project this year so that we can increase the number of children and families that travel to and from school by bike. The project has delivered bike maintenance sessions for children and parents, it has carried out surveys to find out what stops children cycling so that the School Travel Plan can see if it can do any work to help this and it has provided Cycle Training as well as competitions and assemblies to teach the children more about the benefits of cycling.

To celebrate Mrs Hughes and Andy Casson (Mr Bike It!) cycled with some children to The Chase. There we had our bikes serviced, took part in a road safety play, did a bike treasure hunt, tried out stunts, did a cross country bike ride, made smoothies using bike power and had great fun in a drumming workshop - it was a brilliant day!

well...I have had a long, boring day, but no day goes by with a little excitement ofcourse. Today I have popped into the NEW (!) Zula Soundbar in Longstreet and I must say...it is starting to look better by the day. I hope they will finish in time for the GRAND OPENING tomorrow evening!



I also looked at some cameras today - I am looking to buy one, but I am a bit clueless when it comes to digital cameras. I know that I want something with a good zoom and atleast 12 megapixels. I got really exited just looking at them..yay! I cant wait for a new camera!



I also peeped onto Tafelberg Publishers' website. They have just published a new book - Kyk My in Die Oë - it is a first of its kind in the Afrikaans language. A straight-forward, insightful story of a person's struggle with the mysterious bipolar disorder.



Set in a busy, news cafe, where Elsabe (the writer) works as a journalist, she tells us how, in 2001, she was struck by this disease and people's reaction towards her. After episodes in institutions and hospitals and even brain shock therapy,  Elsabé survived and was able to go on with her life. Her accurate writings allow us to experience what it's like to live with the disease. The book is both helpful to those who suffer from the sickness and also to friends and family to understand this mysterious disease.



 The Book Lounge in Roelandstreet, Cape Town, will host the launch of the book on Tuesday the 12th of July. Elna van der Merwe, book-editor of Huisgenoot, will speak to Elsabe Brits about her book and Bipolar Disorder. The evening will start at 17h30 for 18h00 and please rsvp before the end of tomorrow.



I think this might me a very interesting talk. I think it could be a very insightful book to anyone who is interested in the disease or is struggling with the sickness. If I can escape from work for a while on Tuesday to pop by, I will definitely do so.
