The Last Bark

Posted by Unknown Tuesday, October 8, 2013 0 comments

DOGTOWN'S LAST BARK

After
careful consideration the indie rock band from Bellville, Dogtown has
come to the decision to call it day. They are closing the door on one
project with the intent on throwing some focus on bigger dreams and
higher mountains.

After
more than 2 years on the local scene Dogtown has conquered
considerable ground in the industry opening for names like Van Coke
Kartel, Jack Parow, aKing,Taxi Violence and The Plastics to name a
select few. They've been on stage on most of Cape Town's venues like
The Assembly, Mercury, Zula Bar, Manila Bar and felt most at home
when playing in front of a Stellenbosch crowd at either Bohemia or
Aandklas. Their energetic stage performance, combined with a care
free spirit and immense dedication towards their music, ensured fans
could relate and immerse themselves in the music they created.

We
won't lie, it was a tough decision to make, but we're more excited
about the adventure that lies ahead. We support each other, after all
we've been friends for years. Dogtown has been a valuable learning
curve for all of us. We'll take those lessons with us in the next
phase of our music careers, although they will be on seperate paths.

To
the fans, what a journey it's been, some crazy gigs went down. We'll
always carry it with us. We've been extremely privileged,it has been
a rewarding run. It may be the end of Dogtown, but not the end of us
as musicians.”

Stellenbosch on 10 October. Come and join them as they give “The
Last Bark”. Seems not only the entrance will be free, but some

DOGTOWN RELEASES NEW SINGLE

Posted by Unknown Wednesday, April 10, 2013 0 comments

PRESS RELEASE

Dogtown
releases their second single titled “Are you alive”. Combining the
lyrics and music, it was obvious the sound of the song had to be as
extensive as possible, to obtain the impact they wanted. Instrument
arrangement and with some effects, the end result reflects the stadium
rock vibe they hoped to achieve.

Their
previous single “Sunshine” received airplay on the following Radio
stations : 5fm, 94.5Kfm, 2Oceansvibe Radio (which featured on the Top 10
of the Tenacious Rock Chart), UCT Radio, VOWfm, Zone Radio, Afm,
Assembly Radio , to name a select view.

"This
song was written to inspire people to believe in their dreams, have the
courage to follow them and make it happen. If you don't go out and
chase them with all you have, you're not living the one life you have. A
certain saying pretty much sums it up. 'If your dreams don't scare you,
they aren't big enough'. One small chance, is still a chance, we're
happy to take the odds. "

Dogtown consists
of Bennie van der Merwe (Vocals), Tyan Odendal (Lead Guitar), Sias
Visagie (Rhythm Guitar), Nelis Uys (Drummer) and JP le Roux (Bass
Guitar). Since their inception in 2011 they have gained admirable
terrain due to their hardworking demeanour, powerhouse live performances
and passion for music. Their timbre infuses elements of indie, rock and
pop to reflect each member's influences into one unique sound.

Are you alive” as well as the rest of Dogtown's material was recorded at Coffee Stained Vinyl Studio
with Teejay Terblanche (Producer, Engineer) and Reichar Onraet
(Editor). The choice of where to record your material is always a
daunting task, to find someone who will incorporate your style into a
well refined product rounded off with professionalism. Coffee Stained
Vinyl Studio's managed to capture Dogtown's eclectic sound to their
satisfaction.

DPC Interview Series:

Posted by Unknown Saturday, March 23, 2013 0 comments

So, give us a little background on the band and the members?

Well the band started in 2011 when we were first year students. We met Tyan (lead guitar) and Jp (Bass) that year but only joined the band in 2012. We started the band during Stellenbosch Jool time. After seeing other bands’ performances, in our drunken state we started dreaming out loud and this is where it got us so far.

How did you all meet?

Bennie (Vox) and Nelis (Drummer) was roommates and classmates through high school. That’s when we met Sias (Rhythm Guitar). We met Jp and Tyan by gigging together, with their other band Ballistic Blues.

What does your music sound like?

Well it’s supposed to sound inspiring enough to make you wanna do something crazy and fun. As long as people enjoy our music and take something from it, we’re happy!

"A carefree and good time is what inspires our whole vibe."

Who or what inspires your music?

A carefree and good time is what inspires our whole vibe and we hope to project that to our fans.

Inspiration for our music comes from bands like Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Jet and pretty much anything that sounds good in the moment. If it makes you feel carefree it’s doing its job.

Tell us, what do you guys do before a gig?

Drink beer and talk nonsense.

...and after?

Drink beer and mingle.

What do you guys do besides making music?

Sias is doing his last year at AFDA film school, Nelis is studying to become a wine maker (thank God), we love wine. Tyan is studying to become a teacher. I think Jp got a job now, he’s making ice cream and that could come in handy. Bennie is selling his body for money if there are any takers.

Tell us your best memory since being a band?

Difficult question, probably when we played Boom.fm “On the Deck”. It was an acoustic session on the roof of the Pierhouse building in Cape Town, with an absurd amount of free alcohol and Boerie’s. It was very rock and roll.

Favourite venue or festival to play at?

Assembly, Bohemia and so far our favorite festival was RAMfest, but we still have a few to play.

...And the one festival or venue you really want to still play (local or international)?

Wembley Stadium and Woodstock Festival would be cool.

Which local artist/s would you most likely collaborate with?

There’s so many, I think we would have to go with a girl like Lucy Kruger, Chianosky or Inge Beckmann would be very cool.

"We have the craziest fans in the world, they love drinking, every show is like our last day alive, this is what we live for."

Who is your fans? Any funny stories?

We have the craziest fans in the world, they love drinking, every show is like our last day alive, this is what we live for. There was this one time where one of our brothers JP Coetzee hooked up with a girl by saying he was Nelis, classic switcheroo.

So, after a gig we want to buy you a drink, what can we get you?

Well, a beer (Black Label), Whiskey or Jagermeister would be nice (love the Jagies).

Which venue in Cape Town has the roughest crowd?

Assembly is a pretty wild party.

"We want to go on a little tour all the way up to Centurion and stop by a few places on the way there."

Where is your next gig?

In
Bohemia, Stellenbosch on the 28th of March and you can also catch us
31st May with Van Coke Kartel at Mercury. Keep tabs on our social media
profiles though, there will be more shows in April / May.

Plans for the rest of 2013?

We want to go on a little tour all the way up to Centurion and stop by a few places on the way there, so keep your eyes peeled. We’re gonna release a few singles as well so look out for that.

Where can we find your music?
