FIRST-OF-ITS KIND ROCKABILY FESTIVAL SET FOR CAPE TOWN
Love Hot Rods, custom bikes, burlesque and an all-round retro flavor? Then be sure to catch the first official Rockabilly Festival to be held in South Africa, hosted by Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells in Cape Town, South Africa, on 9 November 2013.
What’s it all about? Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells were inspired to create a platform where all the related aspects of Rockabilly culture can be celebrated together – from classic cars, a dirt track to the thrills of the roller derby, fashion to food, not to forget enough live music and other entertainment to take festival goers all the way from noon to midnight.
This festival is for all those fun-luvin’ katz who want a break from the big city hustle and bustle for a day. So to all those rebels at heart – put on your blue jeans, come and show off your tats, style your old-school flavour and show that you’ll never conform to the mundanities of a normal routine! Let’s celebrate the good old days!
One of the highlights of the festival will be the Dickies Dirt Track, where festival
goers can register their classic car or custom bike for a ride on a typical dusty track. True rebels will remember the iconic Dickies brand. Born in America as a rough and tough clothing brand, it was adopted by motor-heads who weren’t willing to compromise on style, all while getting the job done.
Red Bull will be supplying the sound track for the day accompanied by some of Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells finest DJs.
The track will be open from 12:00pm – 17:00pm.
With Golden Circle supplying the sound and Marshall Music - ‘setting the tone’ we guarantee great live performances from the entertainment line up!

Them Tornado’s
Th’Damned Crows
The Pits

Enjoy the food court where there will be NOB (No Ordinary Burger), Baguette Hot Dogs, El Burro, Limoncello, Pancakes, Popcorn, Candy Floss, Joe’s Easy Diner, La Rhine Biltong, Café Pronto and more to indulge your taste buds.
Juicebox will be offering some fresh juices and cocktails or go to Sedgwick’s Old Brown bar for other spirits and a beer to quench your thirst.
Festivalgoers can browse the vendor area for Rockabilly clothing from Miss Happ Rockabilly Clothing and Accessories, Boot Hill, Time, and a Few Moths Vintage Clothing, The Oculus for eye wear, Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells, SA Hot Rod magazine, Capetown Rollergirls, The Rouge Revue, Los Muertos Motorcycles, Dutchie Surf-Designs, Harley Davidson Tygervalley, Jeez Louise, The House of Machines, SM art Inc., Nail and Massage Bar, Dan Fuller Jewellery or get a Tattoo done by Wild Fire - and much more.
In true 50s style, Scar Hair will be at the ready to create perfect up-style looks, while Barnet Fair Barber shop will be on hand to give the guys a trim. MAC Cosmetics will be giving all our entertainers and ‘gals’ the true Rockabilly red lip and eyeliner to round off the pin-up look.
But that’s not all! The Cape Town Rollergirls will be showing off their derby skills on the dance floor, while the Cape Town Bike polo members will be challenging Fish Hoek Bike Polo to the Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells Bike Polo Cup. They are sure to show us how to move in a small space with a bicycle and a ball.
For a nominal fee, parents can leave their little ones in the capable hands of professional child-minders skilled in the art of keeping those energetic bunnies entertained!
In keeping with Rockabilly culture’s ethos of old-school custom-design as a means of self expression – the act of custom-making something to represent who you are – the original poster for the festival features a drawing of a Hot Rod, which can be cut up and glued into a small model. Attendees will be encouraged to photograph their assembled car in different places and the best photo will win a prize on the day.
The event will be held at the Cape Town Ostrich Ranch on the N7 with Beanstalk at the steer as the Events Management Agency. Festival gates will open at 12h00 and all entertainment will finish at 00h00. For the die-hard party-goers, there will be optional tent sleep over available. Tickets are R150 for adults over 18, R50 for children, while 3-12yrs must be supervised. For the out of town followers our preferred hotel with special rates is the Protea Fire & Ice Hotel, Cape Town.
Be sure not to miss this first-of-its-kind festival!
